When she was initially inspired through the shadows she observed on the grass of trees and the shadows she saw on the trees, she set out in developing a process that did not depict the object in a 2D picture. In this way, the object is turned into an image of itself. This happens especially with living objects or those that will perish for example, like fruits or human beings. Her ephemeral art style is apparent and what survives of Alexa Meade's work is the photographic image. Trompe-l'oeil art is created through the combination of two methods of photography and painting. It creates a flattened, two dimensional image. Meade often integrates her paintings within the three-dimensional space surrounding them. They interact within the world she has created for herself. The distinctions between performance photography, installation and painting are thus dissolved.
